What causes acne?
Acne forms when glands in the skin produce excess oil which combines with cells in the skin and clogs the pores. Normal bacteria grow in these pores and the body’s response causes inflammation or reddening of the skin that we associate with acne. There are three main aggravating factors: excess keratinisation, hormonal acne and toxic acne (caused by medications, recreational drugs and party pills). Recent studies have proven a link between acne and a high G.I. diet.
How can I get rid of acne naturally?
The bacteria responsible for acne are anaerobic, which means they can’t survive in oxygen. They produce natural chemicals called porphyrins which are sensitive to light at different wavelengths. If stimulated, the porphyrins produce oxygen which destroys the bacteria – and with no bacteria present, inflammation subsides.
Combination therapies
Omnilux blue light uses the natural visible light spectrum to stimulate these chemicals and eradicate the bacteria that cause the redness of acne. At ABOUT FACE, blue light treatments are complemented by Omnilux red light treatments (which have anti-inflammatory properties to reduce the redness of acne lesions and promote healthier skin), as well as AHA/BHA peels (to reduce keratinisation, refine the texture of the skin and allow the oil to flow without clogging the pores) and at-home skincare, to produce acne-free skin, without side effects or drugs.
Is it safe?
The treatment is safe and harmless to your skin and generates no heat. The light works naturally with your body to promote healing. The only safety measure is to wear goggles to comfort your eyes from the brightness of the light. No adverse side effects have been reported and it is not painful .
What does it involve and cost?
You’ll need an intensive four to six week course of treatments, plus homecare that will need to be started before your first treatment. The homecare products are designed to work alongside your treatments for optimal results.
Our skilled skin therapists will assess your skin and personalise the combination of treatments according to the condition of your skin on the day. If inflammation is predominant then red light will be used to reduce this, while blue light will be used to treat an apparent high level of bacteria.
We cleanse the skin before the treatment and place small goggles on the eyes. The light will then be positioned close to your face and you’ll be treated for 30 minutes.
Each half-hour light treatment is usually $125, but now a course of nine, plus three advanced skin peels, is only $1050. That’s a saving of more than $370! We’ve kept the price as low as possible to enable as many acne sufferers as possible to benefit from this innovative new treatment.
What about the results?
Results are seen about three weeks after starting the course and your skin will continue to improve for up to eight weeks after the course is completed. We’ve seen some astounding results from combining the anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory activity of blue and red light delivered alternately, and with a variety of skin types – from European skin to Maori and Asian (which can often be very sensitive).
